Day 1 Wednesday: Miami / Manaus |
Evening departure from Miami International aboard TAM Airlines flight to Manaus, your gateway to the might Amazon Jungle. Post-midnight arrival at Manaus Airport and transfer to the Hotel Tropical for overnight.

Day 2 Thursday: Manaus / Amazon Cruise (Desafio) |
Welcome to the gateway to the Mighty Amazon. Situated on the banks of the Rio Negro, Manaus, capital of massive Amazonas state, was founded in 1669. The storied city still displays the opulence of its rubber boom era, when it suddenly became one of the world’s most prosperous cities. Today’s Manaus serves as the Upper Amazon’s travel hub and distribution center. Today you are picked up at the hotel and transferred to the pier. Time permitting we will have a brief tour of the city passing / viewing the floating docks, the famed Opera House (The Amazon Theatre) built in 1896 with a neoclassic facade and art nouveau interior. At approximately 2:30 in the afternoon we board the M-V Desafio. A recently renovated cruise yacht, Desafio yacht is over 108 feet long, fully air-conditioned with a sundeck, covered deck and bar, restaurant and salon. Each cabin has private bath, telephone and sound system. The Amazon River is one of Brazil's greatest symbols and one of earth's most endangered natural resource. Adorned by the surrounding magical rain forests, the river has a cast of over 1,500 tributaries, and is responsible for one-fifth of the world's fresh water and one-third of its oxygen. This afternoon we begin sailing the wondrous rivers and tributaries of this magnificent nature sanctuary for a first-hand view of some of the planet's most sacred assets. Here you will explore one of the most exotic, unexplored regions on our planet. After departure, a briefing with the details of our trip takes place as we navigate along the Negro River towards the “Meeting of the Waters”, a natural phenomenon that takes place at the confluence of the dark waters of the Rio Negro with the muddy waters of the Solimões River. Due to the differences in density, temperature and velocity the two rivers do not blend fully until several miles downstream creating this natural marvel. Continue navigating towards Lake January to view the huge Victoria Regia water plant. We will take our first canoe hike into the Amazon tributaries. A stop at an indigenous house to see their way of living is a must. After enjoying the beauty and the lavish green of the Amazon Forest from the deck, we will anchor at Praia do Tatú to stay overnight. Dinner is served during navigation. (B,L,D)

Day 3 Friday: Desafio Amazon Cruise |
Early breakfast followed by a trekking tour to observe the local flora, one of the richest worldwide. Returning to our vessel and take some time for a swim. Lunch is served on board while we start navigating to Samauma Island, located in the Anavilhana Archipelago, the largest river archipelago in the world. This afternoon exploratory tour around the islands and lakes. After dinner we are treated to to a night concert courtesy of Mother Nature as we enjoy the sounds of the jungle forest night from our canoes. (B,L,D)

Day 4 Saturday: Desafio Amazon Cruise |
Early morning we depart the Anavilhanas Archipelago sailing towards Santa Maria, a typical Caboclo village where we will have the opportunity to see the Ribeirinho (indigenous people of the region) way of living. We continue sailing reaching Furo do Meio and lunch is served during navigation. In the afternoon, we will begin our fishing contest as we fish the notorious piranha. Return to the boat for beach swimming. After dinner we board our canoe searching and spotting of alligators by flashlights. Late evening return to the boat. (B,L,D)

Day 5 Sunday: Desafio Amazon Cruise – Manaus / Salvador |
Early breakfast followed by transfer to the airport for TAM flight to Salvador and transfer to the Sofitel Hotel for overnight. (B)

Day 6 Monday: Salvador |
This morning we tour the old quarter of Salvador, Brazil's first capital city founded by the Portuguese in 1549. Salvador (also known as "Bahia") is today considered to be the spiritual and cultural center of Brazil. Bahia has produced many of the country’s best writers, musicians and artists, and it is also famous for its exquisite beaches, fiery cuisine, magnificent colonial churches, and exotic voodoo sessions. This morning we enjoy a comprehensive tour of the city, including the colorful colonial quarter, with its pastel facades, ornate churches, cobblestone streets and traditional food vendors. We visit the Pelourinho colonial district, peruse the numerous galleries and music shops, interact with local artists and try the delicious Bahian cuisine. We also visit Porto da Barra, landmark of the foundation of Salvador passing along the Church of Saint Antonio of Barra, Plaza and Chuch of Vitoria, Carlos Costa Pinto Museum. This evening a special treat as we experience the Afro-Brazilian flavor of Bahia. First, your guide will take you to the Santana Theater, located in the heart of the colonial quarter, where you will attend a fabulous show performed by the Bahian National Dance Ensemble. The show is an exotic array of African songs and ritual dances including the Candomble, Caboclo, a hunting dance, Maculele, a dance performed with a sword and a stick, and, of course, the Capoeira, the spectacular combination of martial arts and dance, which is becoming increasingly popular all over the world. After the show, your guide will walk you to one of the most traditional restaurants in Salvador, where you will be able to taste spectacular dishes of undeniable African origin. (B,D)

Day 7 Tueday: Salvador (Praia do Forte and Projeto Tamar) |
Full day excursion to Praia do Forte and Projeto Tamar (Marine Turtle Protection Project). We depart 8:00am along the Coconut Highway, providing panoramic views of the many beaches, palm and coconut trees and the lagoons that fill the Salvador’s North Shore, up to the beautiful white sanded Guarajuba Beach where cozy restaurants and bars are available. Praia do Forte, former fishing village on a beautiful Coconut-lined coast, has recently been transformed into an ecologically sensitive resort. Praia do Forte derives received its name from the Fortress in order to stimulate colonization of the Portuguese colony in the 17th Century. It is one of the biggest fortifications built in Latin America. The rainforest surrounding Praia do Forte is protected by the Sapiranga Rain Forest reserve. An interesting place to visit is the Sea Turtle Research Project (Projeto Tamar), where turtle eggs are nursed before bringing them safely to sea. Following lunch we visit the Tamar Project to learn about their work to save the sea turtles. Return to the hotel by the end of the day. (B,L)

Day 8 Wednesday: Salvador / Rio de Janeiro |
Transfer to the airport for the TAM flight to Rio de Janeiro and transfer to the hotel. Rio … the very sound of it evokes images of sun, fun and rhythm of the sensuous samba. This afternoon tour begins at Copacabana and Ipanema, two of the world's most famous beaches. A cable car takes you to the top of Sugar Loaf Mountain for a panoramic view of the beaches and Guanabara Bay. Rest of day at leisure to enjoy Rio at your own pace. (B)

Day 9 Thursday: Rio de Janeiro |
Following breakfast we drive through the fashionable Barra District to the base of Corcovado Mountain for a short train ride to the summit. Here, at 2,400 feet above the city stands one of South America’s most famous landmarks, the 125-foot statue of "Christ the Redeemer". The panorama of the city below is testament to why most visitors consider Rio to be one of the most spectacular and beautiful cities in the world. (B)

Day 10 Friday: Rio de Janeiro |
Day is at leisure in the “Cidade Maravilhosa” (the Marvelous City) as the locals refer to Rio. Day is free for shopping or sunbathing or more optional tours. Evening Rio by night tour including dinner and show. (B,D)
